Pledge Drive 2016

Thank you to everyone who participated in our pledge drive! It was a big success, we raised a total of $10,472.

The General Fund raised $3,442, Middle School raised $2,600, Montessori raised $2,760 and Open raised $1,670. This was the result of great efforts on behalf of parents and staff. It is an unfortunate reality that we depend on parent raised dollars to support most of our arts and enrichment programs. We are grateful to everyone who helped out, we have come a long way in a short time. We still need to raise more money and pledge participation this year.

To date, roughly half of our parent body have pledged. Open has 26 out of 66 families pledging, LPM 35/66, Middle 44/87 and 23 families have pledged the General Fund. Please encourage employers, grandparents, god-parents, friends and neighbors to pledge if they can. Every dollar donated goes straight to our great kids, and every bit helps.

What is all of this about the parcel tax? And how does it affect my child?

In the spring of 2015 a finance committee made up of representatives from each program, teachers, the school board and administration made drastic cuts to the district budget. This was necessary to save the district from non-compliance at the county level. One of these cuts was the distribution of the parcel tax to the programs. In 2015/16 school year programs received half of their expected allocation and in this 2016/17 school year they will receive none. Programs used these funds to pay for aides, art, electives and field trips. These programs keep our kids thriving and inspired to learn. We now need to raise this money ourselves or face major cuts to these very important programs next year when we could be unable to meet our expenses.

So what can we do?

PLEDGE – We are asking every family to find a comfortable level of support within your budget. You can make a one time payment or automatic monthly payments of any amount can be set up to make your pledge. Please pledge and help us close the gap in funding between what we get from the state and what we actually need! All of our children are counting on us. Fill out the enclosed pledge card and mail it back, bring it into the school office or donate easily and safely online at: www.leap4education.org

VOLUNTEER – Many hands make light work. Whether you are involved on the program level or with us at LEAP – it’s all very much needed and appreciated. Baking cupcakes, making pledge calls, working a shift at the book fair or attending a LEAP meeting – whatever your interest is – just show up. Jump in and get involved at whatever level works for you and your family. The kids, teachers, staff and parent volunteers are looking forward to working with you.

USE YOUR SCRIP CARDS AND SIGN UP FOR ESCRIP – FREE MONEY! Truly. LEAP is registered with local merchants and online charitable donation sites and vendors with “pay-it-forward” customer loyalty programs. When you shop, the merchants give back a percentage of your purchase back to our school district. This is passive fundraising with no extra expense to you and very little effort!

Here is what you do:

Put the Good Earth and United scrip cards in your wallet right now. Show them when you check out and earn our district up to 3% on each purchase! Sign up for eScrip, iGive, and Amazon Smile or download the Amazon Benefit app. Follow the directions in the enclosed Scrip letter or go to our website at www.leap4education.org

ATTEND PROGRAM AND LEAP EVENTS – Go to a party! It’s hard but you can do it. Our school district throws some amazing events, and we are encouraging you to bring your family, let your hair down, hang out with our community and raise some money while having a great time.

We know that sometimes it feels like there is event after event after fundraiser after event. We get it. LEAP will be sending out a calendar over the next few weeks that will have most of the school year’s event dates on it. Check it out and mark on your calendar the events you want to attend in this school year, that fit in your family’s budget and you can commit to. Does Valley Visions, a Give Back Night at Farm Burger and Clothes Off Your Back all sound like a blast? Mark them on your calendar! Have you heard about the great times at Fall Festival, Bingo Night and Open’s Carnival? Right it down when you get our calendar so it doesn’t sneak up on you – or you forget and schedule something else. Attend events! Pretty fun and easy.

Welcome back to school!

LEAP is looking forward to a busy, fun and productive 2016/17 school year here in the Lagunitas School District.

We’ve had 2 record breaking fundraising years and are hoping for another! Last year’s pledge numbers were awe inspiring. We actually got a little choked up over here at LEAP.
You all stepped up in a big way. Thank you!

Valley Visions was also a super success. The Valley community and supporters, live music, delicious food, amazing costumes and Huda’s incredible event design made it one of the best yet. We are taking a year off from the Read-a-Thon to try a new fundraiser. On January 21st, 2017 LEAP will be hosting our first ever Clothes Off Your Back – and we need the clothes off your back! So start cleaning out those closets. Below are our 4 LEAP recommended actions you can do throughout this school year to keep everything humming in our district. Act on them! Remember them! Remind your friends!

The kids will thank you.

Time to Prep for Valley Visions

Our biggest Fundraiser that gives so much to every program, which means we are looking for support from every program!

Specifically, we are hoping:

  • You will return to the solicitors team.
  • For all of us to engage new families that we think would be great at this job.
  • To establish a large group to make calls to local businesses that have supported us in the past for the online auction.

 How it works:

  • The donors already exist in our data base.
  • Each solicitor ONLY has a few donors on their lists to call and confirm their support.
  • The calls will be made after a letter has already been sent by LEAP.
  • Most of the donors are familiar with our program and are so willing to help!
  • Instructions on how to log into and enter the item on the website will be sent to you once you accept the invitation.
  • LEAP has a support team in place to answer any questions you may have.

I personally took on a list for the 3rd year and can tell you that calling and/or emailing 10 businesses did not take much time. It made a HUGE difference to the auction and what it brought in financially!

If working the school fundraising events on weekends or during the week is not a possibility due to your work hours, this is a great way to donate your time from the comfort of your home, on your own schedule.

Please consider donating this small amount of time to call a few donors. It is a huge reward for our Programs for very little effort!

If you know of anyone who is great behind the scenes, we would love to hear from them or get their contact info.

IF YOU OWN, WORK FOR, OR KNOW OF A BUSINESS THAT MIGHT PROVIDE A GREAT AUCTION ITEM, PLEASE LET US KNOW!

Email gabi_healy@yahooo.com,  titiantracy@yahoo.com, or call 415-488-4118 ex 235 if you are willing to join the ranks.

Many Thanks in advance for your time and efforts,

The LEAP Board

Film Night Benefit on October 21st

Bank of Marin to Host Film Night Benefit for SchoolsRule-Marin October 21st

Featuring the documentary “Beyond Measure” at The Smith Rafael Theatre

In partnership with the California Film Institute, Bank of Marin will host its second annual benefit film night for SchoolsRule-Marin at the Smith Rafael Theatre on October 21, 2014 at 7:00 pm.  Featuring the acclaimed documentary film, “Beyond Measure”, 100 percent of ticket sales will go to benefit SchoosRule-Marin, a coalition of Marin County schools foundations supporting every child, in every public school, in every district in Marin.

From the director of the acclaimed film Race to Nowhere, Vicki Abeles’ Beyond Measure offers an optimistic picture of what’s possible in American education.  The film shares stories of innovative public schools from rural Kentucky to New York City that are dramatically improving outcomes for children of all backgrounds.  How they’re doing it has paid off with increased rates of students finishing high school and college.

The evening begins with a reception at 5:30 pm at the Smith Rafael Theatre followed by the film screening at 7 pm. Russ Colombo, President and Chief Executive Officer of Bank of Marin, and Mary Jane Burke, Marin County Superintendent of Schools, will co-host the event that will include a Q&A with Vicki Abeles, director and producer of Beyond Measure at the conclusion of the film screening.

Tickets are $10 for children (under age 17) and $20 for adults.  Tickets are available at either www.bankofmarin.com or rafaelfilm.cafilm.org.
